Discover the magic of Fallas: A guide to enjoying the festivities in Valencia

The Fallas of Valencia, a celebration steeped in history, are much more than just a party. From March 15th to 19th, the city transforms into a vibrant stage of culture, color, and excitement, attracting visitors from around the world to immerse themselves in the rich tradition of this festival.

ORIGIN

The Fallas have their roots in the ancient tradition of carpenters, who celebrated the arrival of spring by burning wooden pieces used during the winter. Over time, this practice evolved to include the burning of old belongings and rags, giving rise to the iconic fallas monuments or ninots. Today, the Fallas are a celebration of Valencian culture, honoring the patron saint San José, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

During the Fallas in Valencia, participants elegantly dress in regional costumes that recall Valencian fashion from the 18th and 19th centuries. These outfits, made of traditional silk and adorned with embroidery and lace, are the emblem of the festival. The fallero scarf, a centuries-old symbol, has become an emblem of identity and style. During the festivities, the scarf is essential for exploring the city, visiting monuments, and enjoying the celebrations.
